Our classroom offers personalised learning in a 21st Century environment. Our Year 6&7 students are presented with many and varied opportunities to pursue and develop their individual interests and strengths. Digital Learning is provided at a 1:2 ratio with Chromebooks and iPads. Opportunity is provided to engage in learning experiences within and beyond our immediate school environment.
Our programme has a strong Literacy and Numeracy base. Students are provided with the opportunity to accept increasing responsibility for the direction of their own learning, while encouraged to reflect upon their achievements and establish ‘next steps’ in their learning.
We have strong tuakana/teina relationships in our school and prioritise learning opportunities that promote and enhance these. For example; Our Tuakana support our Teina literacy development by participating in Rocket Words (phonics) and Buddy Reading four times a week for 10 minutes a day.
Our Year 7 students go Hauraki Plains College once a week for Technology (Metalwork, Food, Digital and Woodwork). This also builds a good foundation and connection for our students who predominantly go onto HPC for their college years.
