Room Tui
Whaea Charmaine
We are Year 1 and 2 students and there are 9 of us in Tui class. We love learning through play based, teacher supported activities and have a strong focus on literacy and numeracy development in meaningful ways. Whaea Charmaine brings many years of experience in providing play based learning to young tamariki and is implementing this into our new entrant class.
Wow what an amazing first term in room Tui. We have all returned to school with a passion to learn and have welcomed our new team of Tui chicks. This term we have had a strong focus on building relationships, exploring and sharing our emotions. and seeing ourselves as capable learners. We have also started learning about reading and writing using the Better Start Literacy Approach witch is an intentional structured phonics programme. We have had so much fun learning about numbers and how to count these, add them and write them. We love to keep our minds and bodies in shape learning to count to 100 while we work out.
So much learning through play and discovery has extended our experiences in our first term of school for 2022. Outside the classroom we have learned to swim and be confident in the water in the pool and how to play as a team during Mana Aoturoa.
We are looking forward to learning about New Zealand history, exploring Easter and Anzac day. Making Easter baskets, planting poppy seeds and baking Anzac biscuits will help us learn through all of our senses and experiences. We have been discovering how reading, writing and maths can be so meaningful in our lives through baking, planting, art activities, sand and water play, block and hot glue creations and team games.
It has been an awesome term so far for Whaea Charmaine and her wonderful Tui chicks and we can’t wait for term 2.
